InStep Safari Swivel Reviews

rated 4 out of 5 Very Pleased
by Marcie Cloud from Hilo HI, 2010-01-27

I just received my stroller 2 days ago and am more pleased then not with the stroller. I read all of the reviews before purchasing and was a little concerned with 2 of the components (sun visor and child seat backs) but after owning 2 different double strollers (tandem and expedition jogger) my MAIN concern was needing a jogger (because I actually jog- not walk) that would be easy to push, light weight and have a great swivel tire. And to my surprise this stroller is by far one of the higher end joggers that allows you to jog easily without any strain. Because I read the reviews I wasn't shocked that the sun shade/visor isn't adequate so I already ordered a kiopotamous attachment. I would have given it 5 stars if they visor would have been better made. I also am not totally impressed with the way the seats move back and forth but my kids dont seem to mind it (2 1/2 and 8 mnth) and I'm sure I will get use to those in time. Also, it was super easy to put together. If you are looking for a jogger in this price range that actually allows you to jog and is easy to push then this is a good buy. They just need to re-do the kid visor.

rated 2 out of 5 Not worth the money

I am an australian living here in the US for 3 months and needed a double stroller but did not want to pay huge dollars for it. I was excited when I saw this on Amazon. I am glad that I only need it for 3 months, it is pretty poor quality. I am only hopeful that it stays in one piece up until I leave.
Firstly, I paid an extra $30 delivery to get it quickly and then it arrived missing the part that keeps the the left had seat up. I rang InStep and they said they would send one over quickly. 7 days later I rang again. I questioned wether I should recieve reimbursement for the delivery (basically I did not receive all of the pram) the service woman was not impressed with this query and said that they would not charge me delivery for the part that they did not send me in the first place - how nice of them. I had to tie the cords at the back of the seat so it was upright while waiting for the part. 10 days later it arrived. No-one bothered to mention to me on the phone that there are little toggles on the end of the cords that don't come off so I CANT PUT IT ON!!
Secondly, the front wheel jams when you sometimes turn corners. The only way to fix this is to push the pram back and forth until it rights itself. This is very annoying when you are on a busy street. Doing this however bent the axle and the front wheel fell off. My poor father had taken my son for a long walk and had to push the pram back on its back wheels because there was no front wheel. I am now super cautious to use this pram in case the wheel falls off.
The quality of the material is pretty poor, if you spill something on it, it just get sucked up into the material - it also looks alot better on the internet than in person.
People have commented on the sunshade, this has not bothered me. I kind of think that the front wheel staying on is a great priority.
When we first got to the US we hired a baby trend and the front wheel rattled like crazy if you went faster than a slow walk and I thought, there is no way I will buy this one. I am now wishing I did - at least the wheel stayed on.
Please buy with caution and hopefully you get all the parts delivered!

rated 4 out of 5 Great stroller for walking/jogging
by A. Orozco from Spokane, WA USA, 2009-08-26

This is perfect for running and walking around my neighborhood. I have a tall 2-year old and a 3 month old and they fit great, the divider is great, they both seem comfortable and like it. I like the way the seats can recline as little or as much as I want. I run with it at least 5 days a week for 3 miles/40 minutes a day, and take it walking most other days. It's smooth, and easy to push and steer. I take this one out running even when I only have 1 child with me and the weight distributes fine.

I only have 3 complaints:
1) It's bulky in the mall. It says it's supposed to fit in a sedan trunk and doesn't fit in the trunk of our 99 Nissan Sentra unless we rope it in. It's also a lot of work to take it to the mall because it really doesn't fit through standard entry doors. We have to find entrances with double doors. Navigating in stores is difficult (I took it to Pottery Barn home and Restoration Hardware and had to move displays to get around). Now at the mall I put my baby in a carrier and push our single compact stroller.

2) The sunshade is small and doesn't do much. I bought the kiddopatomus sunshade and it helps.

3) No child or parent tray included for drinks or snacks.

But if you're looking for a good running stroller at a good price this one is great. I would recommend it and would buy it again.

rated 1 out of 5 The worst baby investment ever
by S. Barnes from Va. Beach, VA, 2009-08-18

Do not think you can jog with this stroller and the back rests are very short. my 3 year old's head was completely over the top of the back of it, which would be fine if you could sit the seats up. They lean way back at their highest position.

Here's the kicker! The wheel fell off and the stroller when tumbling forward and landed on the pavement on TOP OF MY CHILDREN WHOSE FACES GOT SCRAPED UP!!!! I WOULD NEVER EVER EVER recommend this stroller to my worst enemy. Save your money and get a BOB, even if it's just work walking.

Oh and did I mention that the axle in the back is bent after only a year? And that the rickety clicking sound was there after a month and never went away? And that it's hammock style so that means the kids just lean into each other and get angry with one another? What a hideous investment.

I bought this stroller less then a year ago. The front swivel wheel constantly shakes and the seat is already ripping at the seams. Piece of JUNK!
